THEORY OF CHANGE ONLINE (TOCO)

is a free, web-based application to create Theories of Change, and to learn more about the methodology.

TOCO Preview Users

We have begun piloting with a small number of users and everyone else who has written in will get a registration form in January.

Feedback, questions and discussion are taking place on the ActKnowledge page on Facebook, so join us there.

Background

Begun in 2004 with seed funding from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, ActKnowledge has been working on funding and developing the first on-line TOC tool which builds on, and follows, the ActKnowledge methodology.  We began using Theory of Change methodology learned from the writings of the Aspen Roundtable on Community Change.  Later, we partnered with the Roundtable, and now we continue the TOC gold standard by bringing it to in-person trainings and faciltations....and finally...ONLINE.

Before making TOCO available to the non-profit and foundation world, we are beginning it's application with a pilot program.  We want to find out what the user experience is, how well help materials work, and how to best ensure that TOC remains a participatory process.  We do not want people sitting at their computers in isolation.

Rather, what we envision is a combination of old-fashioned face-to-face meetings with stakeholders and a newer, long-distance approach in which stakeholders who cannot be in the same place can build, share and comment on their initiative's theory.
