Director of ActKnowledge
Heléne Clark, Ph.D., is an environmental psychologist who co-founded ActKnowledge as a participatory action research organization. ActKnowledge’s mission is to work in partnership with any organizations working on social change initiatives to help them build their capacity to plan better for success, incorporate research and knowledge-building into their work, engage in evaluation that measures demonstrable and appropriate outcomes, and disseminate their work.

To that end, Heléne has been teaching organizations the Theory of Change approach, further developing the methodology of TOC, facilitating TOCs, and designing and conducting evaluations based on Theories of Change. In 2003, in partnership with the Aspen Institute Roundtable on Community Change, ActKnowledge began the theory of change website (www.theoryofchange.org). This project, the Theory of Change Online Suite, is a furthering of our joint mission to bring the capacity to use the TOC approach to the field, and provide a means to manage the information that goes into a good theory (e.g. indicators, assumptions, activities, etc.).

Visiting Scholar from Aspen Institute Roundtable on Community Change
Andrea Anderson, Ph.D., is a research associate at the Aspen Institute Roundtable on Community Change, and serving this year as a “visiting scholar” to ActKnowledge and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York to assist in designing the Theory of Change Online Suite. She has Ph.D. in Evaluation and Planning from Cornell University.
